Preparation is everything for a wedding photographer
So if you are getting a chance to shoot in wedding, keep in mind that you should be prepared well mentally and physically and laden with all your important equipments. Don't forget to take extra batteries, lighting kits, memory back up, lenses, camera covers, filters, etc. before you leave. Make a list of equipments that you would require to shoot a wedding. Every wedding require different equipments. If the wedding is hosted outdoors, you would need reflectors and filters. For shooting indoors, you would need flash and strobes. Therefore, always make a checklist and work accordingly.
Be creative in your shots
People look for uniqueness. Of course there cannot be a unique wedding but there can be unique happenings. Find out something different like the bride’s nervousness, the event decorator setting up the party table, the excitement of the best friend, the groom adjusting his tie, the bride’s mother crying out of happiness. Take these shots from different angles so that you can come up with an album that sounds different from what people have been seeing customarily. Don’t show your creativity always, stick to the basics first and when you are free from the basics, start experimenting.
This is because; flash takes some minutes to get charged for the next shot. So if you keep waiting for the flash to get charged, you may miss some vital proceedings. Moreover, the flash light is very distracting and might irritate the guests. Act smart and use the available ambient light to shoot.
Shoot in RAW
While shooting a wedding, you get very little chance to set your frame or adjust your settings. To ensure you don’t miss anything you just have to shoot as much as you can. To give final finishing touches, you have to edit them. Editing RAW pictures will be easier than editing JEPG. Further converting your pictures to JPEG files limits the level up to which you can edit them. RAW files however, consume more space than JPEG ones, so make sure you carry extra memory cards.
Practice rigorously to achieve perfection
Photography is all about practice; the more you practice the better you will polish yourself. Instead of jumping into wedding photography and ending up with poor or average quality shots, you should first start shooting portraits and learn the basics. Once you feel comfortable shooting under pressure, work as an assistant with a professional wedding photographer to learn the tricks of wedding photography. After a thorough training, you will be competent to shooting wedding photographs that will wow people.
